Your first French verbs lesson
Prepared 10 September 2026. Start with a small, approved classroom trial of French Timed Test. Real pupil onboarding still depends on your school's approval and the outstanding privacy and retention decisions in the IT review pack.
Before the lesson
- Open the teacher workspace with your individually approved teacher Google account.
- Choose Create a class, give it a recognisable name and enter the school. Classes and their records belong to the teacher who creates them; a matching school label does not share them with another teacher.
- Open Pupils & access. Copy the required names from the spreadsheet into the import box. Review the preview before adding pupils. Use names only, not dates of birth, addresses or other spreadsheet columns.
- Choose Print login cards. Hand each pupil their own card privately. Keep this screen off the projector. If a card is lost, reset that pupil's PIN and print a replacement.
- Open Teach a lesson, enter a title, choose Timed Test, French, the tense, verb type and time limit. Choose Hidden for the leaderboard if you do not want scores displayed. Save lesson plan prepares it without starting the class.
In the room
- Pupils open Pupil sign-in, enter the class code, choose their own name and enter their private PIN.
- Check that they reach the waiting room under the correct identity. A shared device must be signed out between pupils.
- In Teach a lesson, check the settings and choose Launch for class. Pupils enter the exercise automatically. Each presses Start when instructed; the countdown starts separately on each device.
- Answers include the subject and verb, for example
je parle. A revealed answer does not count as a correct answer. Use the accent buttons where needed. - Use the teacher's projector view for the room. Keep login cards and private participation information off the projected screen.
- Ask pupils to wait for Your result is saved. Check the participation/results on the teacher screen before choosing End lesson.
- Open Progress to inspect the lesson and each pupil's recorded history. Starting a new lesson creates another result; reopening a completed lesson does not replace its submitted score.
If something goes wrong
- Wrong pupil or shared device: return to the waiting room after the lesson and choose Sign out. The next pupil signs in with their own card. Do not hand over a device while it is still signed in.
- Lost PIN: reset it from Pupils & access and print a new card privately.
- Interrupted connection: keep the exercise open and reconnect. If saving fails, use Retry saving and wait for confirmation. Do not switch devices or end the lesson while a result is still unsaved.
- Accidental reload: a timed test can recover its saved questions and answers. The original clock continues; reloading does not grant extra time. This depends on the available saved checkpoint.
- Teacher account cannot enter: Noah can check the approval in the owner access page. A My Language Brain email address alone is not sufficient.
- Pupil leaves the class: archiving blocks future classroom access while retaining history. It is not deletion.
Before a wider rollout
Run this lesson on your school's actual pupil devices and network, including Safari on an iPad. Review the school IT pack, agree retention and erasure arrangements, and verify backups and a restore procedure. Writing and AI marking need a separate review before inclusion in this initial verbs trial.
For app maintenance: schedule releases outside active lessons and refresh before class. An older open tab may need to reload after a release.
